Without a doubt, the most overlooked aspect of catching is receiving the baseball. As catchers, we may get a chance to throw someone out at second base 2 or 3 times per game. We may have to block 8 or 10 balls thrown in the dirt. However, we are going to receive about 100 pitches per game and each one of them is important. A poor receiver takes strikes away from his pitcher and gets him into hitter friendly counts. If you’re only good at one thing as a catcher make it be receiving the baseball. This is something that should be practiced every single day!
